Sustainable Sunday: A Plastic-Free Future

Sustainable Sunday: A Plastic-Free Future

The world’s oceans are a major sustaining life force, providing not only a source of endless joy and inspiration but a home to 97% of the Earth's livable habitat. Despite this, plastic pollution has become a major environmental issue: 8 million tons of it end up in the ocean each year. Many of these plastic products take hundreds of years to break down, presenting danger to marine life, the climate and human health. According to the United Nations, we’re on a trajectory to have more plastic in our oceans than fish by 2050. As a natural beauty brand born on the Australian coastline, we want to do our part to reduce plastic waste and prevent any more of it from ending up in the sea. That’s why we’ve launched key initiatives to keep our oceans pure.

Plastic-free Packaging

All of our packaging is sustainably sourced and environmentally conscious. Our signature vessel is made from glass and wood (eliminating the need for plastic) and our packaging suite (boxes, shippers, tissue papers, booklets and postcards) is made from FSC certified paper, which has been harvested and produced in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner.

Cleaning the Sea

As an Australian brand that harnesses local ingredients and native botanicals, we have a deep connection to our natural landscape. We are proud to align with i=Change to donate $1 from each sale to causes we feel strongly about. One of our charity partners is Seabin Project, who are cleaning the sea and lessening the devastating impact of ocean plastic.

Other Plastic-free Brands We Love

ZERO CO

Clean your house, clean the ocean. The average 4-person Australian household uses over 6,00 single-use plastic bottles of personal-care and home-cleaning products in their lifetime. Zero Co are out to change that with earth-friendly formulations packaged in reusable, refillable ocean waste plastic bottles.

ARITHMOS

These micro-batch plant-based body oils are handmade by Melbourne cosmetic chemist Michelle Wang. The organic and seasonally sourced Arithmos oils are complemented by plastic-free packaging such as recyclable glass bottles, kraft paper shipping cartons and biodegradable mailer bags.

NUUT

nuut makes plant-based and organic superfood blends, high in protein, minerals and vitamins. To help counter good packaging waste (most food grade sachets end up in landfill), nuut has developed a circular packaging scheme - simply send back your empty sachets and they’ll recycle them for you.

Sustainable Sunday Series

This series highlights issues around sustainability and showcases brands pushing boundaries within their own industry. It’s also our pledge to continually find ways to improve our impact on the environment and society, individually as a company and collectively as a community.
